Get In Shape

1/ The Right Doctor

Not all doctors are created equal and sometimes it takes bouncing around clinics to find one who you click with. It’s important that they are on board with your goals as well as values. If, for example, you prefer natural remedies then finding a physician who is more reserved about prescriptions will be a better fit for you.

Regardless of whether you have a family doctor or your preference right now, it’s important that you just get in there and see someone if you are 30 lb. or more overweight and want to start exercising. Before doing anything, book a medical evaluation to get clearance. They will measure both your heart rate and blood pressure to determine the state of your cardiovascular system and will check your family history to know if exercise will place you at risk.

Though Whistler Fitness Vacations focuses on low-impact, beginner-friendly exercises, we still set our own fitness requirements to ensure guests can start our program safely. Results from a medical evaluation are key indicators as to your ability to start exercise and your initial intensity.Get In Shape

2/ A Personal Trainer

While it seems easier and more cost efficient to work out on your own, it’s highly recommended to book a few sessions with a personal trainer. Even the act of stretching has its own technique for you to actually improve flexibility and prevent injury.

With a trained expert to lay everything down for you, it saves the energy on looking for instructions and takes the headache off what workouts to do to reach your goals. In the very beginning, it’s super helpful to have a fitness professional. Not only will they motivate you as you build up strength, they’ll also design a fitness routine customized for you. This will increase likelihood that you’ll stay on track!Get In Shape

3/ Training Buddy

Find someone to ease into exercise gradually with you, who will make the starting stages to get in shape fun. Even if they’re a little slow and frustrating at times! Dogs make the best training partners because everything is pure joy! But if you don’t have a dog, grab a friend or neighbor and just get moving.

There have been many cases where beginners incur injury because they overestimated themselves and started with great intensity. Tap into your patient side and prepare gradually through gentle walking and swimming.

Through this, you’ll achieve anatomical adaptation: a process that prepares connective tissues (ligaments and tendons) for the increased tension that shaping up will place on them. When you get in shape, you also strengthen your connective tissues. This will decrease the risk of injury and prepare you for unrestricted training and maximum results once you are physically ready.Get In Shape

4/Your Family

Shaping up will have a huge impact on the way your kids view their own health. When they see their mom working hard to take care of herself, they’ll recognize the importance of self-control and conscious activity. And it’s the same for your husband as it can motivate him to get in healthier shape.

By setting a good example, you’re helping them live free of heart disease, obesity, diabetes and other obesity-related diseases.  Unhealthy habits can trickle down through generations, but it only takes one person to break the pattern! Here at Whistler Fitness Vacations, we have been fortunate enough to hear from our guests ourselves that their experience has changed their lives as they spent more time with their families and inspired them to live a cleaner life.

Starting Your Journey

Exercise balances your caloric intake and propels you to your body composition goals. It’s the perfect buddy to good nutrition but as eager as you could be to start, you can only reap the benefits if you start on the right foot!  The only people you don’t need in this journey are those whom you compare yourself to. It’s so easy to envy the already fit and thin women in the gym or be discouraged that you’re far from where you want to be. But remember, they too are going through moments of difficulty and are working hard as you are. Fitness comes in all shapes and sizes…get in shape at your pace, comparing yourself only to your personal progress. Everyone starts somewhere!
