7 Luxurious Days In Cabo San Lucas
Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar was such a great place to visit. Not only was it easy to get to from Vancouver, the stay was effortless and as I left, I thought to myself that this would be one of the few places in the world that I would fly to for a long weekend reboot. With stunning landscapes of both desert and sea, I was blessed with gorgeous weather throughout my stay. I found the resort to be luxurious but not stuffy, with a nice balance of customer service. Plus this place had some of the best spa and health club facilities out of all the Starwood hotels that I’ve had the privilege to visit!
This is the first of upcoming blog series, featuring luxury resorts around the world and close to home. The goal of these posts is to empower women over 40 to vacation by themselves and reconnect with their wellbeing and ‘sense of self’. Posts will include 6 things; location, onsite vegetarian meal options, fitness facilities/classes, spa services, room quality and service towards ‘table-for-one’ guests.
As you arrive, the cobblestone courtyard with groundsmen dressed in white will welcome you, ready to assist with luggage. After checkin, you’ll sit down with the resident concierge who will review the many things to do, including the activity schedule. The restaurants put on different events, and there are also quite a few classes, such as cooking and zumba, in collaboration with the neighboring timeshare.
The historic and unique collection of traditional art pieces around the property captured the feel of old Mexico without losing its contemporary comfort. Bright colors and exquisite artwork was especially inspiring to me. Guest services include six onsite restaurants, including the award-winning De Cortez, an ocean front restaurant.
Located in Baja Peninsula
Cabo San Lucas is on the most southern tip of the Baja Peninsula. It’s an easy flight from West Coast cities in USA – with many direct flights from Canada. Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar is about 15 minutes by shuttle from the main downtown hub, with return trips throughout the day.
Airport pickup and drop-off is easy and less than $20 each way. The resort is peaceful, with a private beach, safety at night (I love being able to go for a stroll after dinner) and the many sounds of nature. You awake to the sound of birds outside your window, with waves breaking gently on the beach.
Between the walks, workouts, shopping at local markets and sightseeing, I sampled phenomenal cuisine by acclaimed chefs in their different restaurants, from Mediterranean flavors at the second floor Italian style Tomates, (gorgeous panorama view of the pools and ocean) through to swim-up bar.
It was worth paying the extra dollars to eat at the resort in peaceful surroundings conveniently located a short walk from my guest room, instead of going into town. My stay was truly an opportunity to nourish myself with detoxifying foods and learn new recipe ideas.
With favorites from home available – omelets, eggs, fruit, green smoothies – and low calorie lunch and dinner options (I got addicted to their amazingly awesome ceviche), I felt energized and perfectly on track with my diet. I loved that there was an onsite Starbucks, nothing beats starting my day on vacation the same way as I do at home.
Beautiful Fitness Facility
Hacienda Del Mar has an amazing health club with state-of-the-art equipment and a spacious layout. It was all-round a clean and organized facility. Although the mornings were busy, by mid-day I was often alone. I also took a few fitness classes. The instructors were terrific and it was a great way to meet other guests.
Spa Treatments and Services
Cactus Spa is truly captivating in every sense. This stunning facility made me feel detoxed in both body and mind. Cactus was sincerely an experience above anything that I expected. I selected the deep-tissue sports massage – my therapist Isabel was fantastic – strong and knowledgeable. After my treatment, I sipped chamomile tea and soaked in the spa pool. Bliss!
Gorgeous Guest Rooms
Perfect. The Heavenly Beds are just that – heavenly. I slept so well here. I could also work well, with the bedside table and fast wifi just what I needed for my daily computer needs.
Respectful, Genuine Customer Service
“Hello, housekeeping! Nighttime chocolate!” Um…? Impeccable service, from beginning to end. On the last night of my stay it was colder than I was comfortable, so the wait staff coordinated a Mexican llama poncho for me to eat in. Also, that same afternoon I got a note from housekeeping reminding me to keep my valuables safe! I thought that gesture was really down-to-earth and family like. I’m thrilled to have discovered this little corner of luxury. It’s been a heavenly week in paradise!
Thank you, Hacienda Del Mar!
